Accusing Israel of “genocide” is major fail. And deservedly so, because it’s a false accusation. In a speech that Abbas gave to the UN General Assembly was the highest profile ever exposure to the accusation, popular among anti-Zionists, that Israel practices “genocide” against the Palestinian Arabs, and that the war in Gaza was a genocidal one. This was picked up by major international news outlets and is now known as Abbas’ “genocide speech”. If his use of the term “genocide” to describe the war in Gaza were truthful but “impolitic”, that would be one thing. But it’s not true, it’s plain false. It stamps the Palestinian Arab cause with fanaticism, with reckless disregard for the truth, with hysterical hatred for Israel and the Jews. That one stupid word. But now that Abbas has, for the first time put the term out in the mainstream, it is so painfully obvious that accusing Israel of genocide is to shoot oneself in the foot, if not the head.
But many anti-Zionists disregard the common understanding of the word, and instead point to the “official” definition adopted by the UN General Assemby in 1948, and still used at the Hague:
Genocide means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part. A national ,ethnical, racial or religious group, as such: (a) Killing members of the group: (b) Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group: (c) Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part: (d) Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group: (f) Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.
Mitchell Plitnick of the Foundation For Middle East Peace and an advocate for BDS says “to suggest that Israel’s motivations is their “intent to destroy” the Palestinian Arabs. “If so, they’ve done a lousy job of it as the Palestinian Arab population has grown significantly and consistently over the years”.
It seems “genocide” has entered the far left’s vocabulary for no other reason than to satisfy its own rising fury at Israel. But it’s still not an excuse to “talk bullshit”.
Using the word “genocide” suggest the equating Israel with Nazi Germany. This sort of rhetoric will not stand the light of day. For Abbas to use the word “genocide” in his speech to the Un will forever be hung around his neck.

Dear Representative [Name of Congressman]I am contacting you to urge you to endorse the call made on June 13, 2012, by your colleagues — Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN), Rep. Tom Rooney (R-FL), Rep. Lynn Westmoreland (R-GA), Rep. Trent Franks (R-AZ) and Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) — to launch an investigation into the influence of Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated groups and individuals in the U.S. government. These congressmen wrote letters requesting investigations by the Inspectors General of the Departments of Homeland Security, State, Defense, Justice and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. Each letter referenced concerning incidents related to the Muslim Brotherhood in the department or agency it was addressed to.As I’m sure you’re aware, the Muslim Brotherhood is a radical Islamic group which supports terrorism worldwide and is using stealth jihad to install Sharia and undermine the freedoms we cherish here in the U.S.As a voter in your district, I urge you to endorse their letters and show your concern about this important issue.
The letters refer to a 10-part, freely-available online course created by the Center for Security Policy titled, “Muslim Brotherhood in America.” Each letter mentions incidents where the respective departments worked with entities or individuals tied to the Muslim Brotherhood.
This is a great article because it gives the details about how Israel saved survivors of the Holocaust and Jews who were expelled from the Arab countries in the 1945-1948 period.
